About
A private place for family history
RootsRing started from a simple problem. Family history is spread across photo albums, spreadsheets and the memories of older relatives, and most tools for bringing it together either publish everything online or let anyone change anything.
This site works differently. Trees are private from the start, the whole family can contribute, and the person who started the tree decides what goes in.
Our principles
- Family data is private. No public profiles, no indexing, no selling data. Living relatives can be hidden even from other members.
- Everyone contributes, the owner approves. Anyone you invite can contribute, but changes are reviewed before they become part of the record.
- Complex families are supported. Second marriages, adoption, step-families and relatives connected through more than one branch should all be easy to record.
- Your data is yours. Your tree can be exported at any time.
Get started
Create a tree, add a few people, then invite the relatives who remember the most.
